Harmony On Broadway: Meet Allison Semmes, The Musical’s Josephine Baker!

We can’t contain our glee over Harmony making its way to Broadway this November!

The musical is the passion project of Barry Manilow and Bruce Sussman (our fearless EIC Delaina Dixon co-hosts Naughty But Nice with Rob Shuter, who is Bruce’s husband). This talented duo has worked on the musical for over 25 years, so it’s nice to see it where it belongs!

Based on an unbelievable true story, Harmony tells the tale of the most successful entertainers you’ve never heard of…until now. In the 1920s and ’30s, The Comedian Harmonists sold millions of records, made dozens of films, and sold out the biggest theaters worldwide. Their heavenly harmonies and musical comedy antics catapulted these six talented young men from singing in the subway tunnels of Berlin to international superstardom. What happened next is the story of Harmony.

We’re so excited to see Allison Semmes in the role of Josephine Baker, the real-life singer/actress who made one of the few remaining albums with the Harmonists. Rounding out the cast are Chip Zien, Sierra Boggess, Julie Benko and the Comedian Harmonists players: Sean Bell, Danny Kornfeld, Zal Owen, Eric Peters, Blake Roman, and Steven Telsey.
