Making your New Year’s resolutions? How about cultivating some new music? We chatted with keyboardist Alric “A.C.” Carter of TAUK to find out why this instrumental rock fusion band should be something we’re obsessed about in 2015!
How did the band start?
The band started years ago on Long Island growing up as kids. My bandmates Matt Jalbert (guitar) and Charlie Dolan (bass) and I attended the same school where we found out we shared a common passion for music. We’d played whatever we could on the weekends, just hanging out as friends, and around freshmen year of high school began calling ourselves TAUK.
And your fourth member?
Isaac Teel joined the band about three years ago. Originally from Staten Island, he had been drumming in a number of different bands in the NYC scene. He’s been such an uplifting musical presence that has really enhanced our overall sound. We’re very happy to have him onboard.
What’s your music about?
Our music is about whatever you want or need it to be about. We’re an all instrumental band so there aren’t lyrics that force any particular subject matter. I think of our music as accessible and danceable, but cerebral too. We put a lot of thought into how we want our live shows to feel, and making people smile and listen is definitely at the forefront.
What are your inspirations?
Inspiration for me can come from anywhere. Whether it’s touring, home-cooked meals, time off the road, listening to a new album or seeing live music, I try to keep my ears and mind open. You never know when you’ll hear or feel something that will change your perspective, and I don’t want to miss that opportunity. Most recently the sounds in my new keyboards have been causing me to hear and write differently which is really exciting for me.
Where will TAUK tour in 2015?
We’re traveling across the nation through July 2015! We’ll be at Rock N Roll Resort in Kerhonkson, N.Y., if you want to ring in the New Year with us. You can find out all our 2015 dates on our website.
