HOW-TO Pick a Wine From Moldova

The DivaGals love our wine! So we were front and center at the Wine of Moldova wine tasting inside Astor Center earlier this month.

Moldova is a small country located between Romania and the Ukraine. With 112,000 acres of vineyard planted that yield 30 types of varieties, we were certain to find a wine we could jive to! Here are five of our favorite finds!

REDS

MoldovaEtCetera
Et Cetera Cuvuee Rouge 2012. A blend of Rara Neagra, Saberavi, Cabernet and Merlot, this multi red is a light choice that hits the palette and doesn’t feel too dense over the tongue.

MoldovaMimi
Mimi Cabernet Sauvignon 2012
. Touting silver and gold medals for its taste and aroma, this is a great wine to make you feel like a queen (its founder’s chateau is the only one still existing in the country’s territory). And we love the graduated colored wine label.

MoldovaRose

Albastrele Merlot Rose 2013. We were a bit skeptic, but our guide explained this Merlot is rose-tinged Merlot gets its color from very short skin contact of the grapes. It has a spicy smell that is evident in it’s fruity taste.

WHITE

MoldovaAsconi
Asconi Chardonny 2011. If you’re looking for a great summer wine, this may be it. Blended oaked and unoaked notes bring in its freshness and sparkling undertone.

Grand Vintage 2007 (Cricova). This white brut sparkling wine (pictured up top) has its second fermentation in the bottle ΓÇô and we love those extra bubbles!
