Traveling through Europe definitely has to be on every DivaGalΓÇÖs bucket list! There are so many wonderful countries to see in this part of the world, it is possible to visit a different one every day!
Europe has some of the richest histories in the world. With so much to see and discover, a vacation in a European country is a must. Here are top five destinations to book your ticket to this year:
Cyprus. This little island in the Mediterranean where our Greek, Turkish and Russian sisters live, is gorgeous all year round. You can arrive by boat or by plane, and visit one of the sandy beaches. The seashore at Paphos is the birthplace of Aphrodite in Greek mythology. Like Greece, Cyprus seems to have a big cat population, but this doesnΓÇÖt mean they are not cared for. On the contrary; a 9500-year-old grave of a man and his cat was discovered on the island.
Holland. Home of the windmill and tulips, The Netherlands is a region of very low-lying land. The Netherlands has sizable Cape Verdean population, along with other African communities. One of the most famous cities is Amsterdam, where it is said life is a lot more chilled than most places. Amsterdam is perfect for barges and bicycles, but there is plenty to do here if you prefer to be a bit more active. You can see much of the city on foot, and there are plenty of excellent places to stay. You can check out hotels at Venere and other tour operators online to see what is currently available.
Scotland. If you’ve been watching Outlander, you probably have been jonesing for a visit to Scotland (check in soon for Outlander’s star Sam Heughan in WHITE BOYS WE DIG). Edinburgh is home to Edinburgh Fringe. This festival runs for a few weeks and brings the performing arts into the streets. Scotland is home to many grand castles, but the real attraction of this part of the United Kingdom is the incredible scenery. Mountains, lakes and rivers make this place wild and rugged (much like Outlander‘s Jamie Fraser!). It’s the perfect country to visit if you like doing challenging outdoor activities. Edinburgh and Glasgow are also incredible cities for wild nightlife too!
Spain. Barcelona is an amazing city for modern life. The architecture within the city is an an incredible mix of the old and the very new. So many great ideas come out of this city, and if you’ve been battling the East Coast’s lingering cold weather, know that Barcelona is warm all year round with extra heat through the summer months! Want to tap into your inner kid? Barcelona offers water parks, museums and lots of childlike activities all year round.
Norway. Norway is particularly cold in the winter making it the perfect destination for a cruise to the frozen fjords. You can see the Northern Lights clearly here, and try some new action adventures like dog sledding and snow walks (just remember to slip into your Eddie Bauer jacket to stay warm!). Oslo is a great city for a good night out too, although you will definitely need to pay the coat check charge. During warmer weather, the fjords still make for an incredible sight, and you can bike or hike your way through Norway’s incredible landscape.
