How To Plan The Perfect Birthday Shoot (What To Wear! Where To Shoot! Makeup Tips!)

Hello Divas! As I mentioned earlier this week, I just celebrated a BIG birthday. Along with my amazing virtual birthday trivia party hosted by Trivial Events, I immortalized the moment with my very own birthday shoot!

So what should one wear for a birthday shoot? Something fabulous, of course! Sparkles and ruffled tiers were my choices for the day. I started with this geometric sequin print top, available on Amazon. If you are petite like me you might need to remove a few of the links from the chain strap, but it’s easily done with a pair of flat-nose pliers. The skirt was a piece I refashioned from a dress — work with what you got during a pandemic! You can recreate the look with this skirt.

I wore my stacked sneakers from CAT Footwear since I was standing on mushy grass, but did take a shot or two in my favorite gold sequin heels.

For the makeup, I used my e.l.f. The New Classics palette along with some glittery eyeshadow. The colors are pigmented enough for dark skin tones. I’ve been picking up makeup tips from Painted By Spencer on YouTube, whose tutorials show a diverse range of women of different colors, races and ages, and they all look stunningly gorgeous.

As for your backdrop, I say use what you have. I’ve been sheltering in eastern Georgia. There’s a lake across the street from our house, and some cool rocks on the manicured grounds – perfect to spread out my flowy skirt!
