TV DivaGal is so excited that Project Runway is back tonight!
So how does one win at Project Runway? Well, design your ass off, of course! Here are five stars we’ll be keeping our eye on this season, and why each could make it to the winner’s circle!
Project Runway, season 14 premieres tonight, Thursday Aug. 6, at 9 p.m. on Lifetime!
Edmond Newton. Originally from South Carolina, Edmond first learned about fabric, fit and what a woman wants to wear after working as a model. Now residing in Atlanta, he has held fashion shows to raise airfare for early casting calls and his work has steadily improved. Edmond designs easygoing, glamorous clothes that are inspired in large part by his mother, the most important lady in his life.
Why HeΓÇÖll Win. EdmondΓÇÖs ready to move beyond Atlanta and take his design career to the next level. His extraordinary determination and sheer animal magnetism could take him far on the catwalk.
Hanmiao Yang. Originally from Chengdu, China, Hanmiao studied traditional Chinese painting for several years before moving to San Francisco at the age of 19 to attend the Academy of Art University. She did an internship with Project Runway winner Christian Siriano, and he inspired her to move to New York City to pursue her dream. She’s been designing shoes (holla!), but she’s ready to show so much more.
Why SheΓÇÖll Win. With characteristics such as her blunt bob, her Edith Head glasses, and her rack of modern, unexpected silhouettes, Hanmiao is a competitive little boss!
Laurie Underwood. The mastermind behind her independent label Wanda Grace, LaurieΓÇÖs designs are influenced by women who display their confidence and who they are through their own personal style. This Motor City native studied at the Illinois Institute of Art, and is inspired by Belizean culture which is reflected in her designing aesthetic of exotic prints and bold colors.
Why SheΓÇÖll Win. Filled with drive and dedication, Laurie is able to create looks that allow for women to stand out, while fitting in at the same time. Laurie is determined to prove that nothing can stop a woman with passion, courage and talent.
Merline Labissiere. With degrees in fashion design and architecture, Merline can look at a building and get inspiration about how it might look like or influence a garment. Also heavily influenced by her familyΓÇÖs Haitian culture, Merline gravitates towards the bright colors as seen throughout her culture, partnered with American-influenced structure. She’s also inspired by Mugatu from Zoolander!
Why SheΓÇÖll Win. Merline has a fresh, new approach and perspective to fashion. She welcomes feedback, recognizing how beneficial it can be. She loves a challenge and knows that this experience will draw out her true potential.
Swapnil Shinde. Swapnil has always been fascinated by fashion and as it is a new industry in India, the Mumbai-based designer has risen to the top very quickly. He studied at the prestigious NIFT in Mumbai as well as in Milan, and has owned his own label for the past nine years, creating and selling glamorous, wearable art.
Why HeΓÇÖll Win. SwapnilΓÇÖs futuristic take on traditional Indian womenΓÇÖs wear will set apart from the designer, keeping everyone on their toes.
