Look Fabulous, Feel Fabulous!

My fellow DivaGals in New York City are working the runways at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week right now. While seven days devoted to fashion may seem like a lot, there is a lesson to be learned: When you look fabulous, you feel fabulous.

It’s important to take the time to pull together a polished presentation of yourself through your wardrobe. Seeing the finished product in the mirror makes you stand a little straighter and boosts your confidence as you start your day.

You don’t have to rock designer couture to look good. Just follow these three easy steps to become your own fashion plate:

Form never goes out of style. Trends come and go, so define what silhouettes flatter your body best, and always use them as a basis to buy clothes. A wrap dress highlights my small waist and downplays my ample bottom, so every season I seek a dress in this style. Knowing your shape, and what makes it look incredible, turns shopping into a breeze, and you’ll look good in everything you own. (Note: if your body changesΓÇª you may have to alter your silhouette.)

Invest in the classics. A great pair of wool pants, a black satchel, statement jewelry; these are pieces you should pay top dollar for (within your budget range), because with proper care, they can last you a lifetime. Investment pieces can instantly dress up an inexpensive trend you’ve picked up just for the season. They say diamonds are a girl’s best friend, which is why every one of us should have pair of diamond earrings. My grandmother gave me a set for Christmas and they truly go with everything.

Become friends with your tailor. Want to make your wardrobe look like it was made exclusively for you? Then visit your local tailor, who can transform your off-the-rack finds to a tailor-made fit. Nip in a jacket so it cinches you at the waist. Buy pants to fit your thighs, and have your tailor take in the waist to get rid of the back gap. Shelling out a few dollars for a fantastic fit truly is priceless.
