Sometimes in this chaotic world we live in it, it’s sometimes easy to forget to be thankful for all of our blessings. That is why I love Thanksgiving — a holiday where we can remind ourselves of how thankful we are for all of our blessings!
At the Thanksgiving table in my family we each tell what we have been thankful for in the past year. While this is something I usually dread, after I list all the things I am thankful for, I feel refreshed and renewed. A while back it occurred to me that I should make this a daily practice in my life.
Every morning when I walk my dog or take a shower, I think about what I am thankful for. Sometimes I think of the obvious, like being thankful for my job or my family.
Other days I am thankful for the things so many of us tend to forget to be thankful for. I think about how thankful I am for my legs that allow me to walk and run, my eyes that allow me to see and my fingers that keep me able to type! These are things we take for granted, but some people don’t have use of these are body parts. So be thankful if you have use of these body parts and even if you do not have use of one of them, be thankful for the others.
Sometimes we are so wrapped up in wanting more in life that we are never thankful for what we currently have. We get the apartment of our dreams and quickly start thinking about the house of our dreams. The apartment feels cramped, and the neighbors are loud and all we can think about is moving. I am a firm believer that you cannot have more in life unless you are thankful for what you currently have.
When the apartment feels small remember how excited and thankful you were when you first signed your lease. Continue to be thankful. Every morning when you wake up, be thankful that you have an apartment. Love every square inch of that little place like you did when you first saw it. Love it like itΓÇÖs that dream house!
If you have children be thankful that they are healthy and happy. If you have elderly parents be thankful that they are still on this earth. Whatever is going on in your life be thankful for it. If something bad is going on in your life be thankful that it will soon be over.
That to me is the joy of Thanksgiving. Remembering, whether good or bad, that we need to be thankful about every aspect of our lives! Have a wonderful, thoughtful and thankful Thanksgiving!
Choose to be happy,
