On the real, the hype for You, Me & Tuscany passed way too quickly for us. It had all the ingredients for a classic guilty-pleasure romcom to put on during date night: beautiful locations, leading stars that looked good together on the red carpet, and a soundtrack that had us humming “Escapade” as we strolled out of the theater.
Thankfully, none other than 2000s romcom icon Jennifer Lopez got the memo that we were hungry for another feel-good movie. Office Romance, a story of a secret fling between two workaholics, debuts on Netflix on June 5.
Starring opposite of Lopez is Brett Goldstein, known for his work on Ted Lasso. And, as an extra dose of nostalgia, actor Edward James Olmos plays Lopez’s father—decades after he was on screen alongside the pop star as the patriarch in Lopez’s breakout movie, Selena.
Of course, Lopez’s fans will probably hear the title and instantly think back to her rom-com prime, where she put out a string of classics like Maid in Manhattan, The Wedding Planner, and even more recent ones like 2022’s Marry Me. But the vibes here aren’t going to just be a rinse and repeat. According to Netflix, Office Romance will see Lopez stepping into something they describe as a little more raunchy and mature.
Fan reactions to the trailer have fans excited that the leading lady still seems to have her magic touch in the genre. One commenter took to Reddit to declare Lopez “Queen of the low-stakes romcom, and I’ll die on that hill.” Another chimed in with their reaction, saying, “This looks fun and sweet and gave my millennial heart little flutters.”
