The DivaGals can’t get enough handbags! So when we got our invite to Kamran Ali‘s handbag designer showcase, let’s just say a lot of DivaGals showed up!
The Pakistan-born designer turns to his culture for to bring a stylish sense to his designs. Read on for the first part of our interview with Kamran, and tune in next week for part II!
How does your culture play a role in your design?
It just happened so effortlessly really. My culture is so dynamic and filled with richness in every way. I grew up seeing my mom and sisters’ colorful Pakistani traditional clothing which is always bright and covered in embroidery and sequins. Pakistani fabrics are amongst the best in the world, with beautiful shawls, blankets, sheets and more. My memories of visiting Pakistan are filled with vivid experiences of design inspiration, from clothing and furniture to bags. Pakistani design reminds me of a mix of Arabic and Spanish style fused with an old world charm. Curves and geometric shapes come together in variety of mediums, like the architectural beams in houses to designs on marble floors. When it came to designing handbags, it only seemed natural to bring that sense of style into it.
We love all your bags!
I feel that each bag speaks to every woman’s sense of style in different ways. Our Rosalba clutch is fun and characteristic with an ethnic feel, so it would be a great way to add color and flavor to an outfit for a night out. The Joli clutch also has a bearing of personality, with its unique circular sequined design.
Do you have the perfect LBD bag?
The Noraleen and Surayya are the perfect go-to black clutches to go along with the little black dress. They are versatile in that they’re perfect for elegant and formal occasions, but┬á can also be used as a glamorous accessory to punch up a night out. You can never go wrong with black! Plus the added crystal and stone studded design on each is a sure-fire way to achieve instant sophistication.
Do you have a favorite bag?
One of my personal favorite clutches from the line is Erity.┬á It’s such a versatile and unique bag.┬á It’s perfect for formal events, but it’s traditional polki design and chainwork make it an edgy accessory to add a trendy appearance to any type of outfit really. I think that every girl can work Erity in a different way just because it’s such an effortlessly chic look.
