DivaGals contributor Lauren Wire talks LEKA from NOLCHA Fashion Week!
Fashion week came to a close last month, but there is still a palpable buzz about the styles that ruled the runway. I blame the tardiness of this post on the fact that I had to walk well over a mile to get to the location of NOLCHA Fashion Week, the emerging designer’s showcase at Chelsea Pier along the Hudson. On a normal day, in normal shoes, that jaunt would be a breeze. When it comes to NY Fashion Week attire and trying to make it to show on time — in the middle of one of New York City’s harshest winters — it was tricky.
While I wasn’t a huge fan of the trek, it all became worth it when I saw the space where the NOLCHA Fashion Week: New York Fall/Winter 2014 presented by RUSK shows were being held. A huge loft-like space turned runway was the perfect setting for the edgy show of fierce designer Leka ΓÇô think leather and ruffles, plus braids and sass with a few bursts of bright colors.
My favorite looks were bold dresses with ruffled sleeves and huge accented collars, as well as the ruched blazers atop dynamic dresses.
The designs didn’t end with bold draping, some materials were those that can be found on bad ass bikers — not for the faint of heart. Memorable looks I wouldn’t mind wearing off the runway.
