Just so you know, we DivaGals have been fans of Andie McDowell since Four Weddings and a Funeral. This lovely mass of curls and southern charm gal hosted the┬á WE “Do Good” Awards, hosted by WE tv and Ladies’ Home Journal at the Sea Grill in Rockefeller Center, along with presenters Sara Gore and celebrity event planner Diann Valentine.

The winners included Tessa Wherman of Astoria, N.Y., a breast cancer survivor and longtime runner who volunteers at least once a week with Achilles International helping disabled athletes train and race (she has even taught blind athletes how to ride a bike, kayak and swim); Holly McKay of Jacksonville Beach, Fla, who spends countless hours teaching children about the world of science and math; and Alison Bearman of Atlanta, Ga., who volunteers six days a week at the Atlanta Humane Society, cleaning kennels and bathing dogs, and she regularly comforts sick, injured and recently rescued animals.

Andie opened the ceremony with a humorous quote that recognized the talent and dedication of volunteers. “The Titanic was built by professionals … Noah’s Arc was built by volunteers which would you rather travel on?”

We asked Andie about her own volunteer experiences and she told us that she shot a PSA for ovarian cancer and works one-on-one with cancer sufferers in her community. She has made it her personal commitment to be supportive and to spread the message of early detection. Andie also volunteers with Dress for Success. She enjoys working with this ΓÇ£great group of womenΓÇ¥ and excited to help them get back to work. Andie’s children: Justin, Rainey and Sarah Margaret, also volunteer. Her son has been to Nicaragua and Puerto Rico to work with orphans and humanitarian projects.

On the fun side we asked about holiday plans and whatΓÇÖs on the menu for Thanksgiving dinner. AndieΓÇÖs daughters are vegetarians so it turns out that only half the clan will be nibbling on Turkey while the other half enjoys fish.
