MAKEOVER MONDAYS! Two Africans Designers Toppling The Fashion World!By The DivaGals | July 27, 2020 | Food Fashion Style
Looking for ways to support black-owned businesses? Here are two fashion brands that are embracing black designers and bringing African-inspired collections to the forefront.
Dior has collaborated with African artist Amoako Boafo to produce their latest men’s collection. Amoako is a Ghanian-born artist who has established an international profile and gained exposure in the United States through gallery exhibitions in Los Angeles and New York and major art fairs in Chicago and Miami. Dior’s new collection features “color-blocked cummerbunds and pops of neon recall the bold backgrounds upon which the artist finger-paints his faces,” according to CNN. The cuts are definitely for men but the colors make us want to wear them!
Get out your credit cards for this one, a couture collection by Cameroonian luxury designer, Imane Ayissi. Ayissi founded his own label in 2004 and his designs have been worn by Zendaya and Angela Bassett. It’s more than just traditional kente cloth. His designs meld African traditions and realities with western fashion. His collections combine craftsmanship, materials and traditional African art inspirations together with his use of innovative fabrics.
