Meet Jerry Iwu, Sister Boniface Mysteries

Does the face above look a bit familiar? You may recognize Jerry Iwu from his role of Oba on Netflix’s Sex Education, season 3. The Irish actor (yep, his homeland accent is delish!) has now joined the cast of Sister Boniface Mysteries, where he plays a buttoned-up detective on the British-based procedural drama. And Iwu has done his homework. He was a big fan of Murder, She Wrote as a kid. “I grew up on that show,” Iwu shares.

Premiere Date: February 8 on Britbox

Meet Esco Jouléy, State of the Union

On State of the Union, an elder white couple deal with their marital issues and get schooled on new pronouns as they sit in a coffee shop. Black actor Esco Jouléy plays their barista Jay, who is nonbinary and is teaching the couple about newfound respect. “We all want to be respected,” Jouléy shares. “By opening that door, Jay is getting to know them as well. I want to be accepted, maybe [they] do too.” Working with the likes of Patricia Clarkson and Brendan Gleeson, Jouléy declares, “This was my first everything. I felt like a superhero, about to tell a story in a coffee shop.” The 10-minute series will unfold across 10 episodes over 10 nights.

Premiere Date: Feb. 14 at 10 om ET on SundanceTV. All episodes will also premiere as a full season binge on AMC Networks’ streaming services Sundance Now and AMC+.

Meet Kylie Fisher, Recipes for Love and Murder & Rolan Nedd, Harry Wild

Recipes for Love and Murder, a South African murder mystery series, stars South African native newcomer Kylie Fisher. She plays Jessie September, a rookie journalist who joins a popular advice columnist to solve a small-town murder. “Food is a really big part of the show, which is a really big part of South African culture and community,” she shares, referring to the series’ title. Rolan Nedd is starring in Harry Wild alongside ageless actor Jane Seymour. Nedd, an English actor, actually pulls off an Irish accent throughout the series. As for both these stars’ favorite murder detective shows from the past: “In my family, it’s been true crime and ID podcasts,” Fisher shares. Nedd loves Murder, She Wrote (he and BritBox’s Iwu need to hang!).

Meet Jessica Matten, Dark Winds

Jessica Matten plays Bernadette Manuelito in this new psychological cop thriller that explores lives in Native American communities. Matten, who has worked regularly on a small network from her native Canada, is thrilled to have the opportunity to share her indigenous culture on a bigger platform. “To be able to have the support from AMC, to have allies in this, to humanize the experience of being indigenous in this day and age … they are playing a vital role of giving us a voice, and opening this beautiful door for all of us.” Indeed, there are indigenous people and in front and behind the scenes of the series, including executive producer and star Zahn McClarnon, director Chris Eyre and co-star Kiowa Gordon.
