Music Artist Nilaja Ford’s New Year’s Resolution for 2013!

Up-and-coming recording artist Nilaja Ford fills in DivaGals contributor Nicole Harmon on her music, her beauty routine and her plans for 2013!
Tell me a little bit about your music and label.
It’s Urban popular music. I have my own label right now, Aja Lin, but IΓÇÖm working on a major deal. I am managing my own career at this time along with some consultants.
The song of yours that I like right now is “I DonΓÇÖt Want Your Man.” I can relate to the song because I tell people that too, “I am not after your guy!” Can you tell us the story behind it?
(Laughs). ItΓÇÖs an overall song to other women who think because I am attractive that IΓÇÖm after what they have, and thatΓÇÖs not the case. It was a fun, funny song and concept that I thought up.
You have amazing natural hair! What are some of your style secrets and favorite products?
I used Miss Jessie’s products and olive oil. I like to wash and blow it out often so products donΓÇÖt build up and weigh down my hair.
Tell me about your fashion sense — What’s your favorite pieces to perform in and favorite to wear when you’re not performing?
I like to perform in black leather if possible, and I love stores from Nordstrom to Forever 21. My style is simple classic and chic.
Who are your musical inspirations and who would you like to collaborate with?
Beyonce, Rihanna and Mariah Carey. I have met Mariah, and I would love to collaborate with Rihanna. Her style and mine would be hot!
Some musicians choose to party all the time, and some take care of their body, mind and soul. What’s your musician-life philosophy?
Balance ΓÇô work hard, play hard and rest hard!
What do you hope for in your career for 2013?
I would like to sign a major deal to push towards major/worldwide exposure. I would also like to be on a major tour.
