Solving History's Olly Steeds:Living Out His Childhood DreamBy Delaina Dixon | January 13, 2010 | Entertainment
TV DivaGal is all about following your childhood passions. (I can’t tell you how many times as a kid the TV was taken away for bad behavior. I always found a way around that!)
So that’s why it’s no surprise that international journalist Olly Steeds, who hosts Discovery’s new series, Solving History ΓÇô premiering tonight on the network ΓÇô was searching for answers to life’s mysteries when he was barely out of diapers!
“I had a curiosity towards everything,” he tells the TV DivaGal. “When I was about four or five, I heard about gravity, and I was fascinated by this thing, so I jumped out of a tree with a brick to see who would hit the ground first. “
Didn’t take long for him to figure that one out. “I don’t remember much, just staggering off. I had cracked my head open and had to get ten stitches. I still have the scar on my forehead,” he shares.
After his mom’s initial shock, she had this bit of advice for her adventurous son. “She said, ‘That’s a lesson for you, never jump out of a tree with a brick. But keep asking those questions. Cause you’ll do well in that.'”
And indeed he has. On the new series, Olly does just about everything, from trying to escape from the most dangerous prison in the world to confronting today’s Neo Nazis.
“There’s some of the ancient stuff, like hiding the Ark of the Covenant and uncovering the Lost City of Atlantis to more modern components from World War I and II,” Olly shares. “It has a bit of the Indiana Jones component, and it’s a dream come true.”
Which is exactly what Mom predicted.
Solving History with Olly Steeds begins Wednesday, Jan. 13 at 10 p.m. on Discovery Channel.
