Russell Ferguson: From SYTYCD Winner to Screen Star!By Delaina Dixon | December 17, 2009 | Entertainment
Just like the TV DivaGal predicted, Russell Ferguson was crowned season six winner of So You Think You Can Dance on last night’s live season finale.
The Krumper from Roxbury, Mass., is ready to bring his dance style to the movie scene. And he’d also like to return to SYTYCD someday ΓÇô as a choreographer!
“I would love to come back and choreograph a Krumping or Hip-Hop routine or anything. It would be an honor,” he tells the TV DivaGal.
While Krumping is his background and passion, Russell has had other forms of dance training. He studied for four years at Boston Arts Academy and one year at University of the Arts.
“I got a good amount of training, but most of the forms of dance on the show I had never done before,” Russell shares. “Luckily I did take classes so I could get through them, but there were challenges adjusting my body to that new feeling.”
Which has become his favorite? “The Foxtrot.” Really, Russell?
“It was my toughest challenge and I feel I got closer to it because of that.”
As for pulling up fellow Top 20 contestant Kevin Hunte on stage after learning of his win, Russell says, “He’s like a brother to me, and I felt like I should share that moment with him.”
Awww! Couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy. Congrats, Russell!
