Social Gal Soo Jin Kim hits a private screening for the new movie The Motel Life.

As a movie buff and a self-proclaimed entertainment critic, my favorite thing to do after watching a movie is to dissect the story, inspect the characters and uncover the themes and nuances within the movie.

I went to the screening and Q&A session of The Motel Life Sunday evening. Directed by the Polsky brothers Alan and Gabe, the story is about the intense bond between two brothers as they face the realities of their dire circumstance — or run away from their problems completely. the film stars Dakota Fanning, father-to-be Emile Hirsch and our editor in chief Diva’s favorite Stephen Dorff.┬á Using flashbacks, animation and heartfelt performances, the movie becomes a complex study in guilt, responsibility and commitment. Stephen stated that he fought hard to get the role of older brother Jerry. He was deeply impressed with the edgy and provocative storyline, and how the character dealt with constant inflictions of guilt, remorse and feelings of unluckiness in life. He absolutely loved this role, and we loved him in it (we know our editor will too).

Check out the film when it hits theaters and VOD Nov. 8
