STAGE THIS! Negative Is Positive Now Playing!By Tsadiqwah Scarville | November 19, 2014 | Entertainment
“Brooklyn Bound” contributor Tsadiqwah Scarville checks out a new dramedy written by DivaGal pal Christy Smith-Sloman!
What would you do if you were married and tested HIV positive? A new play by Christy Smith-Sloman is a for sure DRAMA-edy that will have you and your gals saying, “Oh no they didn’t!” Both unimaginably scary yet ridiculously humorous, Sloman does a tremendous job at exploring the true meaning of love: for richer or for poorer, and in sickness and in health.
The play focuses on two young love birds, still in their ΓÇ£honeymoonΓÇ¥ phrase. You know that period when things are still fresh; you rush home from work to see your spouse; every morning the birds are chirping even in the middle of a snow storm; and the sex is so great it feels like the first time.
But this time things are different when Simone (played by GLAAD award-winning actress Karen Eilbacher) visits her dentist for a routine check-up but instead checks out with not so good results. All hell breaks loose (and you thought Tyler PerryΓÇÖs Diary of a Mad Black Woman was the guide on what not to do to make a black woman mad!). Filled with quick wit debates, stirring sarcasm and seriously “all jokes aside” moments, youΓÇÖll be getting front row seats to the good, the bad and the ugly side of love.
Presented by Manhattan’s Theater for the New City, Negative is Positive earned itself a standing ovation from a sold-out crowd on opening night!
Go see Negative is Positive, playing in NYC through November 30!
