New York Fashion Week less than a month away. But the place to be this past weekend was Palm Springs, Calif., where sizzling fashions from Odessa Christiana debuted at Trio, a Palm Springs restaurant much loved by locals and visitors.
The event was coordinated by LIVE magazine editor Juli Ragdale, who’s known for breaking rules. Fans arrived in droves for the event, despite the desert’s 110 degree heat.
Unrestrained when it comes to color and charisma, each of Odessa’s gowns makes a stunning statement. Every model — gals and diva queens alike — “was dressed in a masterpiece,” said Grace Robbins, wife of famed novelist Harold Robbins and co-author of the tell-all book Cinderella and the Carpetbagger.
DonΓÇÖt look for an Odessa clone at T.J. Maxx because each design is an Odessa one-and-only. Each model explained of the theme of their creation with precise care as they mingled with guests.
Remember the classic film Sunset Blvd. starring Gloria Swanson as the Hollywood has-been silent film actress Norma Desmond? Odessa demonstrates what she defines as “sociable art” by mixing a vintage films with progressive fashion.
An off-the-shoulder design pops out with a shocking portrait of Norma Desmond in her final role when as she uttered those famous words, “I am ready for my close-up.” Odessa says her style is “where art and fashion collide.”
Odessa also shares her talents for charitable causes. She teaches silk painting to children at the Childhelp Merv Griffin Village, a project she calls “Childhelp Couture.”
