STYLE YOUR GUY WEDNESDAYS
The Perfect Suit for Any Body!

We love the way men look when they’re in a suit. It can turn the most regular Joe into a handsome stud — but only if the fit is right.

That’s why Style Gals talked to three actors of different statures to find out the best suits for their body types. The next time your step out with your man for a night on the town, he’ll look like he just walked off the red carpet.

Mark Consuelos (The Shorter Guy). The actor and Kelly Ripa‘s devoted hubby, who stands just about 5’9, likes Ralph Lauren‘s suit offerings. “They make nice fitted suit for a guy who is as tall as I am,” he told us at the Pampers 50th anniversary celebration inside Mt. Sinai Medical Center NYC. Indeed, the preppy label offers pants in short, regular and long inseams.

Viable Alternative (pictured): Banana Republic’s Monogram Italian wool black two-button suit blazer, which comes in short and long, and the matching trousers will run you about $650. Look for buttons that are slightly higher on the jacket, which will make you appear taller. A bit of style advice from Mark: “It’s so much easier for guys. If you stay out of sweats, you’ve pretty much accomplished style.”

Marc Blucas (The Tall Guy). The star of USA Network’s new series, Necessary Roughness, stands 6’3. “Some of the designers are really tough because I have a 36 inch sleeve, which, translation, means long gooney, basketball arms,” Marc shared at the USA Upfront Monday night at Lincoln Center. “Gucci makes a long cut suit, and Prada and Paul Smith seem to work.”

Viable Alternative (pictured): J. Crew Aldridge two-button suit jacket with center vent in Italian wool and matching trousers, which retails about $600. The company has a special Tall department online for men who need a little more length. Look for low-rise buttons on the jacket to visually break you up at the middle.

Guy Barnet (The Skinny Guy). “Tonight I’m wearing John Varvatos, tailored,” the British Hollyoaks actor shared with us at the Tribeca Film Festival premiere of Janie Jones. “That, and Christian Dior
seem to fit my skinny frame.”

Viable Alternative (pictured): Zara Fine Stripe blazer and trousers, a modern slim cut in lightweight wool that retails for about $280. Look for a slightly heavier fabric to contour to the body instead of hanging loosely.

Remember, every suit will look better when it’s been tailored just right, so take advantage of the tailoring services offered at stores, or make friends with the tailor at your local cleaners.
