TASTE THIS! Carla Hall’s Restaurant Kickstarter Campaign!By Chanel Omari | October 28, 2014 | Entertainment
Celebrity correspondent Chanel Omari checks out Carla Hall and her Big Apple dreams for a new restaurant.
Carla Hall is opening up her first Southern Kitchen restaurant in New York City, and is bringing some of her Nashville home cooking to my favorite city!
I had the honor of interviewing and eating with the renowned chef, co-host of the popular talk show, The Chew, at a cool and hip food truck in downtown New York City. I got to try some of her fast-served food and some of her famous “hot chicken,” which will be featured in her new restaurant that will open in the spring of 2015.
Carla brings a unique twist to her southern fried chicken, which is fried in an iron skillet and then tossed in a spicy cayenne paste. It’s brushed with Carla’s secret hot oil recipe and crisped to perfection. Who needs a man when you have some of Carla’s tasty home good cooking?
This Nashville beauty had me indulge in some of her inspired favorites, which include collard greens, mac ‘n cheese, hot chicken tenders and fresh lemonade!
Who would have thought that her inspiration to cooking was her grandmother? Carla shared that her mother was never really the chef in the family; it was always her beloved grandmother who she took after, gracing the world with her talents.
Carla has launched a Kickstarter campaign for her new restaurant. I asked Carla why she launched the campaign, she humbly responded it was “all for the fans.” She wants to engage her fans so that they can be part of this exciting venture alongside her!
The Kickstarter campaign will allow the community to be involved from the earliest stages and continue through every restaurant Carla opens. Carla has chosen to put the names of all supporters who donate over $25 on a founders’ wall that will live in every restaurant, to always remember those who have supported her and taken this journey with her.
Hearts touched by now? The campaign runs through Oct. 29 with the hopes of raising $250,000 for the restaurant’s kitchen.
The food truck event was a success! It was amazing how Carla greeted, photographed and ate with every fan waiting on line to meet her. I was inspired when she told me that the secret to success is “being genuinely happy and waking up at 40 and not hating your job.” I couldn’t believe what an extraordinary career Carla has built on her own. From catering and serving as a top chef and becoming a host of a popular TV show to being married and having it all, this Nashville native has it all figured out by age 50.
Please visit Carla Hall’s website and get your names on the restaurant wall. And try a few of Carla’s recipes yourself with her book, Cooking with Love: Comfort Food That Hugs You. I know I am! Visit carlahall.com/kickstarter for more info.
