TEN DAYS TIL THE ROYAL WEDDING
Style Your Guy to Flawless Skin!
By Delaina Dixon |
April 20, 2011 | EntertainmentWe’re pretty sure that bride-to-be Kate Middleton has booked endless appointments to make herself stunning for the Big Day. But what about Prince William? He probably wants to look good too for his nuptials.
Of course, if your man is anything like ours, he probably uses whatever little sliver he finds stuck in the soap bowl to clean up. Time for an upgrade! So we headed to Alma Salon NYC in Gramercy Park to get skin tips from salon owner and master stylist Alma G. Here are her top three tips for your man to give his skin and hair the royal treatment!
An Apple A DayΓǪ for Blackheads! Alma says this blackhead-erasing recipe came from her grandmother back in Albania. “Cut up a green apple into a blender, add whole milk and puree it into a mask,” Alma says. “Put the mask all over the face, especially where you see blackheads. Keep it on for 30 minutes, wipe it off with wet cotton balls and moisturize.” Apples have malic acid, a natural exfoliant, while milk helps soothe and soften skin. Alma Salon NYC offers a full menu of facial services for men at the salon.
Bald Be Gone. Prince William will definitely want to know about this one. According to Alma, “As we get older, our hair follicles loosen and can no longer hold on to our hair.” To combat this, Alma, who has more than 20 years of experience, has created her own hair treatment ALMATIZED. “It’s a mixture of tea tree oil, rose petals, agave, jojoba oil and avocado.” For an at-home treatment, Alma suggests using the yolk of an egg. “It has cholesterol, which isn’t great in our bodies, but it’s great on our scalps.” She also suggests massaging virgin coconut oil, which can be bought in any specialty food store, into the hair to help prevent breakage.
A Clean Getaway. To insure a good, clean shave, Alma says to first put a “damp hot compress, like a hot towel, on the area. It helps open pores so you don’t create ingrown hairs while shaving.” She advises to stay away from tonics that have alcohol in them, or excess oil. “Those bumps left after shaving may look like blackheads, but excess oil can actually cause ingrown hairs,”Alma suggests.
Keep It Neat. We all know that getting a regular trim help keeps the ends of our hair strong and healthy, and keeps your man from looking like a wilderbeast. But what man wants to shell out tons of dollars every four weeks on hair? Alma Salon NYC offers the ultimate deal for men — $500 for a year of haircuts. “He can come in every day if he wants,” she declares. “We just like to pamper people.” And give them a major break.
The Alma Salon NYC offers services for menΓǪ and for women. We can’t thank Alma enough for the quick shape-up she gave to our enhanced locks, giving them the layers and movement they needed to look like we grew it ourselves, in just a few minutes.
