At this year’s CW TCA panels, I had the opportunity to hear about the upcoming second season of one of my favorite shows, All American. The CW drama series sheds light on the adoration and intensity behind high school football, with Daniel Ezra leading the cast as Spencer James, a high school rising football star from South Crenshaw who is recruited by a school in Beverly Hills. In an effort to protect his transfer permit, Spencer moves in with his recruiting football coach, Coach Billy, played by Taye Diggs, and his family, including Coach Billy’s son Jordan, who is the team’s starting quarterback. has trouble sharing his dad’s attention, and Billy’s daughter, who is battling demons of her own. This upcoming season is sure to be filled with emotional roller coasters and surprises like season one.
When asked whether or not the cast found vast differences while filming in South Central LA vs. the Beverly Hills area, Daniel shared that he found the sense of community in the South Central to be very alive and interconnected. He feels supported and that there is a sense of pride from the community that the All American is being filmed in their neighborhood.
The fun did not end at the panels. In fact, the real mingling and connecting happened at the afterparty, where The CW pulled out all the stops. I caught wind of whispers from several TCA members that The CW does not hold back for their afterparties and that they throw the best in the business, so I was excited to experience one for myself!

And let me tell you, everyone was right! Held at West Hollywood’s well-renowned restaurant Catch, known for their phenomenal and picturesque decor, tasty seafood and classy cocktails, TCA members and CW casts, production and PR teams all joined together for chatting, connecting, unwinding and of course, eating. Special cocktails were curated perfectly for the occasion and I had the best veggie sushi roll and lobster mac and cheese I’ve ever had.

While there, I caught up with Jalyn Hall who portrays Dillon James on All American. Originally from Atlanta Georgia, he was recruited to LA while doing a play by his current agent Nick Ross at Pantheon Talent Agency. Now he resides in Tinseltown with his mom as they navigate through the entertainment business with hopes and dreams of continued success.
Though his mom misses home in Atlanta and being close to family and friends, Jalyn says he enjoys working on All American and looks forward to more roles and opportunities in the near future. He’s been a busy guy lately, appearing in Shaft, Black-ish, Star and NCIS-Los Angeles, so I have no doubt that we’ll be seeing more of this young star in the coming months and years.
