The Secret Behind Single Ladies: The Series!By Entertainment Gal | July 26, 2011 | Entertainment, Gals On The Town
Hey Single Ladies fans! As we’re sure you already know, VH1’s first scripted drama has been picked up for a second season! Yeah! More sexy hook-ups, amazing wardrobes and killer lighting!
Our Entertainment Gal recently chatted with Stacy Littlejohn: creator, head writer and executive producer of the series. Stacy shared that her inspiration for the show is something many can relate to: unemployment!
After the 2007-08 writerΓÇÖs strike, Stacy, who’s written for such series as The Hughleys and All of Us, found herself without a job for the first time in years. Stacy started pitching ideas to anyone and everyone looking for the right opportunity, when this one with VH1 presented itself. It was very much the right meeting at the right time.
It didn’t hurt that Stacy was single at the time. She was able to create characters that resonate with todayΓÇÖs single woman, and each one is looking for love in her own way. Val (Stacey Dash) believes in fate and romance, while Keisha (LisaRaye McCoy) believes in using her head rather than her heart. April (Charity Shea) is learning the hard way that happily ever after isnΓÇÖt always easy. But all are committed to finding and keeping “The One” to share her life with.
The show is currently filmed in Atlanta, Ga., but Stacy is already planning to get the girls on location, as she feels they “open up a show so much more.” Her dream spots? An island or Italy, but Las Vegas or even Los Angeles would work as places to send the ladies. I see a road trip in season two!
You know we had to talk fashion. Stacy is very pleased to have two extremely talented fashion consultants dressing the stars. Anthony Williams, a Project Runway alum, dresses Stacey Dash, while Okera Banks, a fashion industry and styling veteran, is responsible for LisaRaye McCoyΓÇÖs looks. Both designers are trendsetters that make each woman look sexy and beautiful in her right. Even though Stacy has final approval, the stylists are free to do their own thing because that is what they do and she trusts them. Just in case you were wondering where they find their fabulous fashions, both Okera and Anthony shop all over the country for the looks they create. In addition, Anthony does quite a bit of vintage shopping for Val.
Single Ladies airs Mondays at 9 p.m. on VH1.
