TV DivaGal Exclusive: Anoop Desai On Who Went Home on American Idol and WhyBy Delaina Dixon | March 25, 2010 | Entertainment
Spoiler alert! This story mentions who got kicked off of American Idol last night.
TV DivaGal knew that it didn’t look good for Paige Miles after her lackluster performance of Phil Collins‘ “Against All Odds” on American Idol Tuesday night.
America agreed, and she was the second contestant eliminated from the Top 12 this season.
Paige showed such promise! So what went wrong?
According to Idol alum Anoop Desai, it had a lot to do with staging.
“The monitors that you hear yourself on are way in front on the stage. She started up on the stairs where the band is. She couldn’t hear herself singing, I guarantee you,” Anoop exclaims.
Paige’s segment with mentor Miley Cyrus might have played havoc with her mind as well.
“In the five minutes before Paige sang, the judges and Miley said that she was pitchy like 13 times,” points out Anoop, who released his debut single, “My Name” this week.
“Of course, you’re going to get up on stage and think, everyone thinks I’m pitchy and you’re going to be pitchy.”
Combine that with nerves, and it was a triple threat Paige just couldn’t overcome.
“Paige is a great singer and it’s unfortunate, but that’s the way it goes,” says Anoop.
Anoop, who finished in sixth place last season, applauds this season’s contestants for taking on what he considers one of the hardest theme weeks to date.
“Billboard number ones? You’re saying I have to take one of the top songs of all time, make it different and have it be a great song in its own right. That’s asking a lot.”
Of course, Anoop doesn’t have to worry about that on his new album, All Is Fair, which drops in May.
“The best I can do is make music that I’m proud of and because I’m writing all of it too, that part is going to come out.”
