Scoring a 10 in the kitchen! credit: Food Network
As promised, my hot-off-the-griddle interview with Brian Boitano, star of the new cooking series, What Would Brian Boitano Make?
Sure, we know him from his amazing Olympic Gold skating career, and from his superhero status in South Park, The Movie. But Brian Boitano, the chef? That’s a jump we weren’t expecting!
Brian confesses to the TV DivaGal that he loves being in the kitchen when he’s not on the ice, where his culinary skills, “are self taught, pretty much through trial and error,” he says.
“After the Olympics, my friends and I started cooking different recipes for each other. We’d trade off.”
Just like a beautifully choreographed skating routine, each episode of What Would Brian Boitano Make? has a theme.
“There’s one where I meet these Roller Derby girls and invite them over for dinner, and they want bacon in everything,” Brian reveals. “And for my friend Yvonne, who is six months into motherhood, I throw a little party for her.”
In the premiere episode, Brian’s trying to find his good friend, Tony, a date, so he invites over 20 sexy singles to make Tony’s acquaintance (now that’s a good pal!).
Brian serves up a delish platter of apps., as well as Mar-tonies to the eligible ladies. So did the tasty treats help his friend score a date?
“He met two girls he liked, but at the end of the shoot, our production company said, ‘That’s a wrap,’ and the girls left before he could get their numbers,” Brian confesses.
Too bad for Tony. But it got me thinking: What would Brian Boitano make if he was trying to help the TV DivaGal snag a man?
“Guys like beef, so make a nice steak,” he suggests. “Put some dry rub on it, sear the outside and keep it simple with a meat, a vegetable and some sort of potato.”
Sounds like Brian is a superhero in the kitchen, too.
What Would Brian Boitano Make premieres Sunday, Aug. 23, at 1 p.m. on Food Network.
