Maybe So You Think You Can Dance‘s Kent Boyd should hit his head on Cat Deeley‘s pool every week, ‘caus there definitely was something different about this week’s performances.
During Kent’s hip-hop routine with All-Star Comfort, he brought a little bit of swagger, which was a nice change of pace from that “awww, shucks,” ‘tude he usually has on the dance floor.
Then there was Kent’s Contemporary routine with fellow contestant Lauren Froderman. TV DivaGal concurs with judge Adam Shankman; it was like peeking in on two young lovers sharing their last high school dance. Seeing these two did just get out of high school, recreating those emotions of not knowing what to expect next wasn’t too difficult for either of them. I know 14-year-old girls around the country are rewinding that stage kiss over and over again (for the record, I only watched it twice).
Got to give major props to Cat tonight, who went above and beyond her usual maternal and support self. After Ad├⌐Chik├⌐ Torbert’s Bollywood routine, Nigel warned Ad├⌐Chike that he needed to stay within the confines of the dance style and not add too much of his personality, to which Cat pointed out that’s exactly what they praised Jose Ruiz for doing when he took on Bollywood a few weeks back. Nicely done, Cat! I think the judges kind of thought they’d get rid of Ad├⌐Chike in the first round and are surprised over how much he’s connected with the audience who keeps voting for him. If only they could find the same type of loyalty for Robert Roldan. The judges practically begged America not to put him in the bottom three this week. Let see if it works.
Such a bummer seeing Alex Wong regulated to the sidelines because of his injury. It automatically puts him in the bottom three. That can only mean one thing to the two other contestants standing there with him during elimination: they’ve got a 50 percent change of being sent home, and the odds are not in their favor.
Catch So You Think You Can Dance, the elimination round, Thursday at 9 p.m. on Fox.
