TV DIVAGAL's Shows to Watch Tonight: Idol and Retired!By Delaina Dixon | January 19, 2011 | Entertainment
American Idol. 8 p.m. on Fox. New format! New judges! How can you not watch? Veteran judge Randy Jackson shares the spotlight this season with the newbies: Diva from the Block Jennifer Lopez and Aerosmith front man Steven Tyler. Here’s what the legendary rocker said he’d be looking for, so take note current and fellow contestants — yes, Tyler revealed he’s signed on for more than one season! “Can they sing and are they in pitch; do they have character; and three, do they have a star quality about themΓǪ that would be my expertise,” he shares. And Steven adds, with his drumming abilities and sense of tone and pitch from his Juilliard-trained father Victor Tallarico, “I think I’m going to take it up a notch.”
Retired at 35. 10:30 p.m. on TVLand. I got to admit, the network’s newest scripted series is pretty silly. The shows follows the life of 35-year-old David Robbins (Johnathan McClain), a New York executive who quits his job and moves into a Floria retirement community with his separated parents. And the jokes? They are kinda, well, old. “Are you on the facial book,” his dad asks. Ugh! But there are three reasons to tune into this brainless bit of boob tube. 1. Just Shoot Me alum George Segal and Arrested Development’s Jessica Walter play David’s parents. That’s comic royalty right there. 2. TV DivaGal loves a little diversity with her romance, so I’m totally approving of David’s crush on Jessica Sanders (Ryan Michelle Bathe), a pretty black girl he’s had his eye on since high school. Take that, The Bachelor! 3. Drop a relatively cute 35-year-old in with a bunch of randy senior age women, and there’s bound to be a cougar in the mix. Trust us, there is.
