Entertainment Gal kicks off her coverage of the TV Show to Watch Tonight: Basketball Wives L.A.. Tune in for her weekly Basketball Wives L.A. review!
Ever since VH1 announced that Gloria Govan and her sister Laura were going to be in the Los Angeles version of Basketball Wives, I’ve been waiting with baited breath to see what this would bring. After all, this is the same girl that dissed Shaunie to her face during lunch as she gave BBW the deuces, and her sister is the gal that Shaunie accused of sleeping with her husband!
The wait is finally over, but for those who can’t even wait until Monday night’s premiere, I’ve done some research, courtesy VH1.com. Here’s what you need to know about the Basketball Wives L.A. premiere!
Gloria is enjoying a fresh start in Tinseltown with the Los Angeles Lakers‘ Matt Barnes. SheΓÇÖs rightly concerned about ΓÇ£the sceneΓÇ¥ in L.A. being different from Orlando, Fla., but it seems as though she and Matt are on the same page. Say what you will, their relationship seems based on respect and trust. Watching them do the couple thing is cute.
Laura starts off the show by addressing her drama, and I respect that those are the first words out her mouth. She knows whatΓÇÖs out there and whatΓÇÖs been said and heard (including her ex-fiance Gilbert Arenas, who tried to get an injunction to stop the series from running), and she deals with it rather than make excuses for it.
Imani Showalter is the nine-year fianc├⌐e of shooting guard/small forward Stephen Jackson of the Milwaukee Bucks. She has moved to California to start over on her own. Stephen called off their wedding back in 2005, allegedly because Imani wouldn’t sign a pre-nup. All I will say is that women need to wise up about these multi-year engagements. If you arenΓÇÖt married after three years, you need to reassess the situation so that you donΓÇÖt end wasting your life on a man who may have no intentions of being anything more than an engagement fling.
BBW LA star Malaysia Pargo is planning a jewelry line for kids. ThatΓÇÖsΓǪ interesting. WeΓÇÖll see how that develops. She only said about five sentences, but already, I find her to be a bit much. Every show has to have the girl thatΓÇÖs a bit “extra,” and I see that is going to be MalaysiaΓÇÖs role. GloriaΓÇÖs calling her bougie, but thatΓÇÖs not it. SheΓÇÖs just trying too hard, and itΓÇÖs kinda obvious itΓÇÖs for the cameras.
Kimsha Artest, fellow Laker Ron Artest‘s ex-wife (who may make her his wife again, according to reports), is an East Coast transplant whose heart is still in N.Y. She doesnΓÇÖt like the phoniness she sees in L.A., and I think she will be my favorite BBW because sheΓÇÖs not afraid to say what she really thinks. SheΓÇÖs very real in her one-on-one interview; she’s not trying to impress a single person.
But back to bougie Malaysia… she is an L.A. native and (rightly) took offense to people’s notions that L.A. is faker than other places, and that thereΓÇÖs more phoniness and snotty people there than anywhere else. But as a recent transplant, I totally understand where the ladies are coming from: L.A. is the home of Hollywood, which is the land of make-believe. I like it and can hang, but not everybody does. Malaysia shouldnΓÇÖt take it so personally. In the end, weΓÇÖre all living here ΓÇÿcause we want to so we canΓÇÖt hate it too much.
I want to hear what you think of the show! Tweet me at Entertainment Gal while you’re watching!
