Tonight is the final episode of Ugly Betty, which brings tears to TV DivaGal’s eyes.
That’s why I was so glad to hang with Betty herself, America Ferrera, and the rest of the cast one last time at the Save the Children fundraising event inside Axelle Gallery in New York City Monday night.
Sound familiar? That’s the same place Betty convinced to showcase the paintings of then-boyfriend Matt Hartley (Daniel Gold), unaware they were all of her!
As Save The Children’s spokesperson, America’s raising funds to build a school in Mali, West Africa.
“It’s about the changing the course of many people’s lives that will affect so many generations,” said America about the night’s fun and fundraising efforts. “For us, it’s just pennies. For them, it’s the difference between getting to dream or not getting to dream.”
Of course, I had to ask what she’d miss most about the series she’s done for the last four years.
“I’ll miss getting to see my cast on a daily basis. It’s been a week since we’ve wrapped, and I’m jonesing for them already,” she admits.
“I text them a couple times a day to say what are doing now, I miss you and wish we were together on set.”
Before America gets you crying again too, know that she isn’t totally gone from TV after tonight. She’s executive producing a new interactive telenova called Pedro and Maria for MTV. So is she planning to hire herself in a role?
“I don’t know yet. I haven’t thought that far ahead.”
Well, we’re thinking for you, America, and we say a definitive yes!
Catch Ugly Betty, the series finale, Wednesday, April 14 at 10 p.m. on ABC.
