Partnering with the United Nations and its Nothing But Nets campaign, the show brings light and helps raise funds to stop the spread of Malaria in Africa.
“Betty has been promoted this year to features editor,” shared series executive producer Richard Heus at an intimate press conference inside New York City’s UN building, where part of the episode was shot.
“She’s already been told in a prior conference she shouldn’t talk about Malaria in a fashion magazine. But she can’t help herself.”
Betty pitches using the insectide-treated bed netting in a fashionable spread. Smart girl!
“Much to her surprise, Wilhelmina (Vanessa Williams) agrees and allows her to embark on this adventure.” Well, we already know that Wilhelmina has other things to worry about!
In the context of the story, Betty discusses Nothing But Nets, something that feels so right to Ugly Betty star Judith Light.
“Betty’s trying to change hearts and minds about how we all relate to one another, so all of a sudden a fashion magazine where you never think a story like this would work really does because of this particular character and who she is,” she explained.
