US Open 2016: Meeting Olympians And Encouraging Kids To Love The Sport!By Maureen Martin | August 30, 2016 | Get Fit
For this GET FIT Tuesday, we head to the US Open with Luxe Gal to work it out on the courts!
The end of August is bittersweet. It marks the end of summer days, but it’s also the beginning of the highly anticipated US Open. As a fan of the sport, Luxe Gal loves walking the grounds and tracing the steps of our favorite tennis players.
Long before the Williams sisters ruled the courts, it was all about Arthur Ashe. The tennis legend lives on in the hearts, minds and the grounds of US Open. Events like┬áArthur Ashe KidsΓÇÖ Day, presented by Hess, is “the largest single-day, grassroots tennis and entertainment event in the world and has been supported by Hess since 2003.”┬áThis year’s celebrities in attendance included Olympian and Disney stars. Our favorites included┬áFlo Rida’s performance, and getting up close to Venus Williams and Simone Manuel.
Proceeds from Arthur Ashe Kids’ Day benefit the USTA Foundation, which helps fund the National Junior Tennis & Learning Network (NJTL), a nationwide group of more than 500 nonprofit youth-development organizations that provide free or low-cost tennis, education and life-skills programming to more than 225,000 children each year. It was founded 47 years ago by Arthur Ashe, along with Charlie Pasarell and Sheridan Snyder.
For the next two weeks you can watch up-and-coming players compete to play against the top seeds and for big cash prizes. Tickets range from $60 for the early rounds to the hundreds for the finals. If you haven’t made plans for Labor Day weekend, stop by for a lux staycation. You can tour the grounds, sipping champagne or Grey Goose signature cocktails as you casually rub shoulders with┬áSpanish professional tennis player Rafael Nadal or spot a Williams sister. You’ll be in good company with tons of cute tennis players from all over the world.
If you find you’ve developed a crush on the sport, consider joining the USTA. You can take lessons and become a tennis insider … ┬ájust like us!
