Love & Gelato: Three Reasons To Watch On Netflix TODAY!By Delaina Dixon | June 22, 2022 | Entertainment
Why wait till the weekend to go to Italy? Netflix just dropped its newest rom-com, Love & Gelato. Here are three reasons to watch this adorable love story now. Or put it in your queue for your weekend viewing!
Rome’s Romantic Backdrop
First off: fulfilling her mother’s dying wish of visiting Italy before heading to college at MIT, Lina (Susanna Skaggs) finds herself surrounded by stunning Italian scenery and even more stunning Italian men. Based on the bestselling novel by Jenna Evans Welch, the movie teases us with incredible shots of Rome, like at St. Peter’s Basilica at dusk. Don’t be surprised if you find yourself craving a bowl of spaghetti alla puttanesca by the time your Love& Gelato movie is done.
We loved Anjelika when we first met her in Netflix’s Tall Girl. This rising actress once again is giving us all the vibes. She’s Lina’s BFF Addie, who encourages her girl to have an Italian romance with the impossibly handsome Alessandro Albani (Saul Nanni) — first from across the ocean, and then from a lot closer. Addie adds just the right amount of zing to give Lina (and the film) some much-needed pep at its midpoint. And Washington’s hair? Flawless!
Lastly, neurotic Lina is caught up in a bit of a love triangle with a hot, rich Italian bad boy and a kind aspiring chef. But it’s a special gift left by her mom that reveals a missing part of Lina’s past. It helps her truly tap into her spectacular, goofy, soulful, full-of-joy self. A lesson we can all learn, with a little gelato on the side.
One note: Much of the film is in Italian, so you will have to read subtitles.
