He’s lived a “thug’s life,” but that didn’t stop 50 Cent from finishing high school.

TV DivaGal attended a private lunch with the rapper mogul last week to get a sneak peek of the new season of Dream School, premiering tonight on Sundance Channel. The reality experiment follows several NYC high school dropouts for 30 days as they work with celebrity “teachers” to get back on track to get their degrees, with the help of executive producer 50 Cent and others.

But back to the star getting his degree. “I’ve always had to be two people. I had to be aggressive enough to get by in my environment, and then be my grandmother’s baby in the house,” he shared with me exclusively.

“When I was hustling, my grandparents thought I was in an after-school program. It was only between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. I was out doing things, and then I’d be back in the house.”

Getting a GED in 12th grade was a major accomplishment for 50 Cent, but not because it was hard for him to focus in classes. “I didn’t want to be behind my peers,” he confessed on why he finished.

And look how far it’s taken him now.

Dream School: NYC premieres Wednesday, Oct. 1 at 10 p.m. on Sundance Channel.
