Childhood’s End Star Mike Vogel On His Fave Holiday Treat!By Delaina Dixon | December 14, 2015 | Entertainment, Gal Approved
You may remember Mike Vogel from the hit CBS mini-series Under The Dome. Obviously the mini-series world has been good to this White Boys We Dig, because he’s the star of Syfy’s newest three-day event Childhood’s End!
This iconic piece of science fiction by Arthur C. Clarke follows an alien invasion on Earth by mysterious Overlords. They’ve been sickened by the violence, disease and hate in our world, so they take over and turn it into a utopia, but at the cost of humanity.
Mike stars as Ricky Stormgren, a farmer who is the mediator between the aliens and us. “He’s a very unassuming person to step in and fill the role as the intermediary between the overlords and earth,” he explains. And then Mike gets deep.
“ItΓÇÖs scary that that this book was written in 1953 and today it’s exactly the same — insert the same bad guys, and the overlords say, ‘listen, this is where you’re headed and it’s time to fix something’ and take drastic measures. Our hope is it’s gets people talking.”
We certainly will be! We decided to find out what this devoted husband and father of three is doing for the holidays.
“I’ll be spending it back at my farm in Nashville, Tenn. We moved there and bought a little farm. We have some horses and our two girls, and they are in love with their horses, he shares.
“There’s no better way to breed independence in a girl than getting her around a horse that she has to take care of. And I was racking my brain on how do I keep them away from boys! She’ll love the horse, and not the boy.”
Mike will also be making his signature dish. “ItΓÇÖs called pineapple souffl├⌐. ItΓÇÖs a love-or-hate type thing,” he explains. “ItΓÇÖs a great thing. You get a little bit of the sweet with the savory in this pudding type of thing.”
Mike admits that while his wife “hates it,” everyone else loves it . . . and he’s betting we will too. Check out this recipe to try for yourself!
Catch Mike in Childhood’s End, starting today, Monday Dec. 14 at 8 p.m. on Syfy.
