WEDNESDAY MATINEE MOVIE TO SEE: Lola VersusBy Delaina Dixon & Valerie Greenberg | June 13, 2012 | Entertainment
If you’re looking for a hump day movie break, and you live on either coast, Lola Versus just may be the ticket you’re seeking.
The movie, shot in New York City, tells what happens to 29-year-old Lola after her boyfriend dumps her right before their wedding, ouch!
Our red carpet correspondent Valerie Greenberg chatted with the film’s stars, Greta Gerwig, who plays the title character; co-writer and co-star Zoe Lister-Jones and writer/director Daryl Wein for thoughts on their romantic indie.
What goes into preparing for a role and how hard is it to memorize your lines?
Greta: I don’t have to work on memorizing my lines if the scenes make sense to me. If I do rehearse, by the end of rehearsal I should be off book.
What’s it like working with Zoe, who stars in and also co-wrote the film?
Greta: I love Zoe Lister Jones! Zoe and I are both New York actresses and we both audition for all the same stuff.┬á I’ve always known who she is because she’s super cool, downtown and awesome.┬á When I started acting she was in a hit off-Broadway play and already on the radar.
Why do you like shooting in New York City?
Zoe: The great thing about shooting in New York is that there are so many varying locations that you can get a lot of texture, but the challenge is that New York is sort of jam-packed.
Where do you draw your inspiration and creativity from in regards to this film?
Daryl: I draw on my experience in our relationship (he and Zoe are a real-life couple!).
Lola Versus, now playing in New York City and Los Angeles.
