Where To Stay For A Weekend Getaway In Washington D.C. — At Kimpton Rouge!

All you need to change your perspective is a 24-hour getaway. The key? Find a location that’s not too far from home, make sure it has incredible attractions everywhere you turn and stay in a kickass hotel.

That’s why we picked the coolest hotel in D.C. for our overnight stay: Kimpton Rouge Hotel. Conveniently located near Dupont Circle, this former apartment building turned boutique lodgings has one goal: make you “feel your sexy” throughout your stay.

Upon arrival after an easy 4.5-hour bus ride from New York City, we were greeted by Kimpton Rouge’s Grecian garden statues. You’ve probably figured out Kimpton Rouge’s theme. Its lobby feels like a Molin Rouge performer’s boudoir with crimson walls, mood lighting…

…and the silver phone that connects you to the pleasant staff behind the front desk.

That sexy vibe continued into our suite which offers up a tufted red bed, picturesque sitting area, a bright orange mini-bar and a nicely stocked kitchenette.

We wanted to curl up in the leopard-print bathrobe hanging in the closet and soak in the vibe, but there’s so much to do in D.C. (and we only have 24 hours!).

While it may seem that Kimpton Rouge is in a residential territory, it’s only a short walk to 14th St., which is filled with restaurants, bars and lounges. Kimpton Rouge’s front desk manager suggested we dine at Commissary, a large American eatery where we scored breakfast in the early afternoon.

Our bellies full, we were ready to see the nation’s capital, and all the attractions are a hearty walk from Kimpton Rouge down 16th Street. You first hit the White House and U.S. Treasury.

Swing left to see D.C.’s main attractions, which include The Washington Monument, the reflecting pools of the Lincoln Memorial and the memorial itself, celebrating a president who really understood that “all men are created equal.”

We were keeping an eye on the time as we didn’t want to miss one of Kimpton’s signature touches, its Happy Hour. From 5 to 6 p.m., its staff offers complimentary glasses of red and white wine, along with light nibbles. We enjoyed ours in Bar Rouge, Kimpton Rouge’s on-site restaurant. This small space packs a big punch with a full bar and a crafty mixologist creating her own signature nips.

Bar Rouge’s simple dining menu offered up just enough bites for us to get our snack on — which you can do in the bar itself, or in the exclusive Rouge VIP Room, just off the bar. And the dining goes on until 10 p.m, which was great when we were ready for a late-night burger snack.

After Happy Hour, it was time to explore again. Dressed to impress, we headed back out on 14th St. and discovered Le Diplomat, a stylish French bistro serving Rosé and a full menu. It was the perfect place for people watching and evening conversation.

I’m the kind of gal that has to get her workout, no matter what. Kimpton Rouge’s tiny gym offered all the basics.

But the real star attraction was the yoga mat back in our room where I got my morning Zen in.

I worked up an appetite, so was so happy that Bar Rouge does breakfast, offering complimentary coffee and tea, along with a for-purchase breakfast menu that can be enjoyed there or like we did it, back in the room.

I love good soap/shampoo/conditioner in a hotel. Kimpton Rouge rises to the occasion!

The best way to get your exercise on and see D.C. at the same time is on a bike. Borrow Kimpton Rouge’s resident one (in red, of course) and take in all of the city on two wheels.

Time goes way too fast in a 24-hour jaunt. We can’t wait to head back to D.C. and another stay at Kimpton Rouge. It’s where a multicultural gal truly can feel like she’s in the room where it happened.
