Brian Van Holt On New Ascension Role!By Delaina Dixon | December 17, 2014 | Entertainment, Gal Approved
Brian Van Holt played a too-cool-for-school dad on Cougar Town. But now heΓÇÖs taking full responsibility for hundreds of lives as the captain of a ship in space in the Syfy mini-series thriller, Ascension, which airs its third and final part on the network tonight.
Luckily, Brian hasnΓÇÖt lost any of his cheeky charm, which the DivaGals gleefully discovered at Syfy’s holiday party! Catch the final night of Ascension tonight at 9 p.m. on Syfy.
Who do you play on the ship?
I play the captain. I am responsible for 600 people. I was born on the ship. The only thing I know are all the references from 1963, and what’s on the ship.
Were you a Syfy fan before you starred in this series?
ItΓÇÖs a new world for me as an actor, for sure. IΓÇÖve never acted in it, and wasnΓÇÖt particularly an avid fan. But after doing Ascension, it opened a whole new world of science fiction to me. Doing press junkets and┬á interviews and hanging out with the fans, I found that science fiction fans just seem more into it, and that’s very deep and gratifying as an actor. Fans that are smarter than you are, thatΓÇÖs kind of special. They see conspiracy theories the writer didnΓÇÖt even know about!
If you were stuck on a ship in space, what would you have to bring with you?
Can I really tell you? (laughs)┬á I guess now you need your damn smartphone, whatever that may be. You could basically launch the ship from your iPhone. If had to pick one thing, I’d want to leave that behind. I’d bring a massive library of books. I miss reading.
What would you love to find under the Christmas tree?
Vinyl, as in records. Keeping it PG-13.
If you werenΓÇÖt an actor, what would be your second dream job?
I’d want to be a space DJ!
Do you make New Year’s resolutions?
I donΓÇÖt make New Year’s resolutions; I make them every day.
What did you make today?
I’ll tell you later!
