Why Cougar Town's Laurie Can Give Dating Advice

On Cougar Town, Jules (Courteney Cox) turns to her 20-something assistant Laurie for tips on getting back to the boys.

What exactly are Laurie’s qualifications for schooling another on how to score?

“Laurie is a young woman in the dating scene. She’s seen it all and done it all,” Busy Philipps, who plays the role, revealed to the TV DivaGal at the launch party of the NYTV Festival in New York City.

“She’s got advice on how to break up with someone, that’s a very funny episode coming up,” Busy shared. “My character really helps Jules in the situation she is in with men. Jules doesn’t have the experience because she was married for so long,”

Busy, who is hitched in real life, had some tips for all the single ladies.

“The best advice I have ever heard is from Oprah. You have to think of yourself as a taxi and put your light on if you want someone to get in,” Busy declared.

“I think it is really good advice. If you’re not putting yourself out there and smiling at people, guys aren’t going to approach you in bars.”

Would that be the best place for us to meet Mr. Right, Busy?

“I met my husband in a bar, for real,” she chuckled.

“It can happen. You can meet the person you’re going to marry at a bar or coffee shop or club. You just have to be willing and open to that.”
