Working From Home? Six Tips To Make At Home Work A Success!
By The DivaGals | November 4, 2019 | LifestyleWhether running your own business or working as a freelancer, working from home for yourself has many advantages. It can offer you the chance to work flexibly around other commitments. It can give you an opportunity to earn money for yourself, doing your own things, without worrying about horrible bosses, discrimination or gender pay gaps. It can be fun, which is why more people than ever are trying to find ways to do it.
Many people that work from home think that they’ll have far more flexibility and a much better work-life balance, but it isn’t always great. Most people find that they struggle to create any balance at all. As work takes over, they struggle to take time off and work and life completely overlap. This can lead to stress, poor mental health, and a lack of time for yourself.
Over time it can affect your relationships, reduce productivity and creativity and ultimately hurt both your working life and your home life. So, let’s look at some ways to create that perfect balance when your work is at home, and your home is at work.
Stick to a Schedule Flexibility is great. But, sticking to a schedule as much as possible can mean that you find it easier to clock off at the end of the working day, and take full days off. Decide what days and times you want to work, and stick to it as much as you can.
Don’t Use Your Address Your business, even if it is based online, needs a physical address. You’ll need to put an address on your emails, and have somewhere to receive post. This can put your security at risk, and it can make it harder to take time off. Getting a physical address can mean that you’ve got help dealing with mail and that your private address is kept secure.
Create a Home Office Having a home office can be a massive help when it comes to separating home and work life. Even if you don’t have a spare room to turn into an office, having a desk in a quiet area of your home can be effective.
Keep Up with Hobbies Don’t let work stop you from doing the things that you love. Make time to carry on with your hobbies, and don’t start saying no to things, because you need to work. Give yourself permission to enjoy yourself and to take a break.
Make Time for Relationships Don’t make every conversation you have about work. Make time for your partner, ask about their day, talk about your hobbies and interests, and commit to spending quality time with the people that you love.
Work Out of the House Another fantastic way to keep work and home separate is to work outside of the house sometimes. If you’ve got a lot going on, head to a co-working space: a library, a coffee shop, or another public space where you can work comfortably, you might find that you are more productive, and you get more done out of the house, and that you find it much easier to relax when you get home, knowing that your to-do list is complete.
