On the new CBS show, The Good Wife, Chris Noth plays a disgraced politician whose wife, series star Julianna Margulies, has to return to work because he’s doing time after doing time with a hooker. (Does SATC‘s Carrie know about this?)

In the pilot episode, Julianna gives her unfaithful husband a good slap (you know he deserves it), and Chris definitely felt the sting.

“There was no other way to do it,” Julianna explained about whacking Mr. Big at The Good Wife press conference this morning. “Chris Noth is so great. He’s like, ‘Oh, please, I’ve been hit so many times.'”

(Seriously, does Carrie know about this?)

Julianna did it three times before she got it right.

“The first time I didn’t hit him hard enough, apparently. The second time was good, but the camera was off. And the third time was perfect,” she shared.

“I left a red welt, so we couldn’t shoot again.”

Love it when an actor suffers for his art!

The Good Wife premieres Tuesday, Sept. 22 at 10 p.m. on CBS.
