When the DivaGals attended media guru Matthew Berritt’s 2nd Annual VANITY Birthday Fête benefiting Amy’s One Step Ahead Foundation, we couldn’t help but notice the cutest gal working the door’s guest list in the edgiest of outfits. Image our surprise when she told us it was her own design! Swiyyah Couture, the brainchild of emerging designer Swiyyah Akhtab, isn’t for the demure, but if you aren’t afraid to (literally) show off your curves, this is the look for you! The Brooklyn-bred designer, who was wearing the Futuristic Flow, a combination of a swimsuit with matching harem pants, describes her style as a “mixture of street and chic; a hardcore edge while incorporating high-end glamour in every design.” We’re loving her Chain Gang Classic in neon yellow — we’re confident even we can pull it off for Fashion Week, Spring 2013! WATCH. There’s a new network about to hit the digital airwaves, UBC-TV, Urban Lifestyle Television. The DivaGals attended a launch party at The National Black Theatre of Harlem for its newest program, The UBC Mix, a hot new dance show. The night was filled with young aspiring dancers gyrating around to the music as tasty morsels were passed and guests sipped on Piccolo Tesoro Sparkling Rose Moscato. America’s Next Top Model alum Isis King modeled on the red carpet as Image Gal hung with close, personal friend, TV expert Simon Applebaum, who is also launching a new show for the network. The best part? Getting to enjoy the night and get an intimate look inside the National Black Theatre of Harlem, one of the city’s hidden treasures.
