30 Days To Paris – Make Your Flowers Last While Your Gone!

Divas! We’re seven days away from our trip to Paris for the wedding of our dear fellow DivaGal Samantha von Sperling. We can’t wait to see all the great sites the City of Lights has to offer. Of course, we thought we’d have to toss our gorgeous spring bouquets we love keeping in our homes. But after a lesson with “Flower Man” Michael Gaffney.

Kimpton Hotel Eventi in New York City has partnered with Michael to provide flower arranging classes to guests and groups. During our preview, the Flower Man – who taught Ms. Cicely Tyson how to maintain her flowers longer than the usual, gave us his five life-elongating flower tips. Read below!

1. Like most things in life, quality counts. Purchase quality flowers that are firm (which means they have a lot of water) and have a little bounce when squeezed.

2. Flowers need H2O to survive. Submerge the entire bouquet underwater for 30 to 45 minutes to gorge them with the water they need to stay fresh
3. Add some bleach in the water. Believe it! Two drops of bleach can help kill bacteria and eliminate that “old” flower smell.
4. Flowers are just like us and love a finishing powder. Spray them with Crowning Glory which seals them in wax. Don’t worry, the spray won’t harm pets or kids!
5. Flowers are just like us!  They love a little trim. Cut a couple inches off stems every few days to keep their ends neat and fresh.
