This Valentine’s Day, Warner Bros. gave us all a treat with the casts of Bob Hearts Abishola, Batwoman and The Bachelor, who shared what TV shows taught them about love, romance and friendship while they were growing up.
Born and raised in Lagos, Nigeria, Folake Olowofoyeku who plays Abishola reveals that while in boarding school, she and her friends would watch subtitled Spanish novellas. “That’s where I got my notions of love,” she shared with a laugh. Her onscreen counterpart, Billy Gardell — who has lost an astonishing 102 lbs. — recalled The Honeymooners. While he admits the classic sitcom had jokes that wouldn’t hold up today, Gardell appreciated how Ralph (Jackie Gleason) realized he couldn’t have made it without his wife Alice (Audrey Meadows) by his side. “He was humbled by it all,” shares Gardell, who’s been married for more than 22 years.
Batwoman‘s Javicia Leslie shared that her shows are black-centric nineties sitcoms like Family Matters and Martin. “On Martin, friendship was the strongest element in their relationship,” she reveals. “I want a partner that can make me laugh and I can have fun with.” Her co-star and onscreen love Megan Tandy concurs. “Martin, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, it was about family and for me, that is love,” she says.
The Bachelor, #WBWD Clayton Echard, spoke more about the importance of friendship, which he learned from SpongeBob SquarePants! “Good friends stand by each other — as long as they have your back, that’s what you need from friends and family.”
