Find A Husband In 90 Days #QuarantineEdition – My Funniest Moments In Online Dating!By Delaina Dixon | September 3, 2020 | Relationships
Hello Divas! Need a good laugh? Let’s talk about online dating then! My pal and dating mentor Samantha Bessudo Drucker, the originator of the 90 Days To Find Husband No. 2 series, always says to have a sense of humor when dating, and let’s face it – you need it! Here are some of the encounters I’ve had in my online search.
The Man Without A Phone. I started chatting with one guy and set up a call with him. I wanted to let him know when I was available so I sent a text to the number – no response. I missed a call from him a few days later, so I sent another text telling him I’d call back in a few hours, again no response. I followed through and he answered. I asked if he had gotten my texts. “Oh no,” he replied. “I don’t have a cell phone.” Oh! I understand that a cell phone isn’t a necessity, but isn’t it though? Especially nowadays when we really need to connect with people virtually. It just seems like a way of life. We are still chatting, but I’ve moved him to email!
The Man Unwilling To Travel. As you know Divas, I’ve been sheltering-in-place in Georgia. But as a New Yorker, I’ve been conversing with men in New York City with the hopes of meeting when I’m in the Big Apple. Which I am now. A guy made plans to meet me, to which I said sure and directed him to a spot near my home. He then called me to say that it was unfair for him to have to travel all that way for a first date. Dude, I came from GEORGIA. Needless to say, we called off the date altogether.
The Man Who Wouldn’t Get Online. I connected with one guy who loved writing flowery emails and sending selfie shots at twilight. I was open and eager to connect via a phone call or Zoom chat, especially after he promised to serenade me on the guitar. He flatly refused, saying he would only do it in person. Okay… Upon returning to NYC, I reached out to let him know I was in town and, crickets… Maybe his guitar busted a string?
The Man Who Hates Baguettes? I had a phone call with another guy who works as an international pilot. When I said that I loved Paris, he replied that Paris kind of stinks. That was the end of that right there.
Yes, there are a lot of trials when trying to find love. But you just have to laugh it off. I have met wonderful men who are smart and well-traveled; are confident enough to do a video date and have cell phones. I’ll continue conversing with these worthy suitors and see where the future takes us.
