Five Reasons To Watch BET This Upcoming Season (You’ll Love No. 3!)
By Delaina Dixon | May 1, 2017 | EntertainmentHi Divas! We attended the 2017 BET Upfront and we’re still grooving to the sounds of Schoolboy Q.
As the premier network dedicated to black culture, BET is offering 47 more original programming hours that are committed to being relevant, radically bold, dope and fun, and all showcasing the power of back culture. Here are five reasons why you’ll say “Yes to BET” this upcoming season!
1. The Quad and Being Mary Jane are back! The Quad, the show about life on a black college campus, is returning for its sophomore season. And Being Mary Jane, that plucky reporter who’s figuring out her best hustle, is back for season FIVE in July!
2. Lip Sync Battle gets some funk! Lip Sync Battle, where celebrities compete to their fave artists’ tunes, is bringing two new editions to BET: Soul Train and Hip Hop edition. Now those are gonna be fun!
3. Centric has got a new name. BET’s female companion network will become “BET Her” starting Oct 1. We think that just makes perfect sense.
4.BET is moving into late night and comedy. BET will launch several new series, which includes Kevin Hart’s co-created┬ánew scripted comedy Divorce Saved My Marriage, about a failed marriage that actually works (sounds familiar!); the new talk show Man Cave; dating reality experiment Love Room, where couples cut to the chase and move in together; Face Value, a new game series, hosted by black-ish‘s Deon Cole, where making the right snap judgement wins you money — or as Deon put it: “black people get to profile and get paid for it,” 50 Central, a variety show from 50 Cent; and The Rundown, hosted by Robin Thede, which will explore pop culture and politics from a black female perspective.
5. More Biopics! BET is producing The Bobby Brown Story, and the biggest news of all came from Bobby Brown himself! He said, “you don’t know the real me. My story is way deeper than the eyes can see. I’ve been through a lot in my life and I’m still standing. [We will] give you the true, original and real story … My life has been the most beautiful time I’ve ever spent. I’ve been an entertainer all my life … We’re going to give you a great movie. You’re gonna love it because all I am is Bobby.” BET is also doing Death Row Chronicles, a six-part series about the music label┬ábehind Tupac, Snoop┬áand Suge Knight.
