Chestnut Off The Resident?

This was probably the most distressing news we heard at today’s press tour: Morris Chestnut was moved from series regular to reccuring on The Resident. We almost lost it… until we learned the reason for the change. He’s has series regular status on the new FOX drama series Our Kind of People. “Once I read the script, I wanted to be part of this world,” Chesnut shared about his upcoming new series. “I felt that this story about affluent wealthy Black people who are not playing ball or in entertainment was something that the world needed to see and I wanted to be a part of that.”

So What Is Our Kind Of People?

Get ready for the drama you’ll be sipping wine over while watch-partying with your gals! Inspired by Lawrence Otis Graham’s provocative and critically acclaimed book, Our Kind of People: Inside America’s Black Upper Class, Fox’s new drama series takes place in the aspirational world of Oak Bluffs on Martha’s Vineyard, where the rich and powerful black elite have gone to play for over 50 years. Angela Vaughn, played by Yaya DaCosta, is a strong-willed, single mom determined to reclaim her family’s name with her revolutionary haircare line that caters to the innate, natural beauty of black women. But she soon discovers a dark secret (oooh!) that will turn her world upside-down and shake up this community forever. So soapy!

Our Kind Of People premieres Tuesday, Sept. 21 at 9 p.m. ET/PT.

The DivaGals are also excited for the premiere of The Big Leap, also coming to FOX. It follows several people at a crossroads in their lives who audition for a reality dancing competition.
