FOX TV Press Tour Summer ’18: The Cool Kids’ David Alan Grier Explains Why He Still Feels Like OneBy Delaina Dixon | August 3, 2018 | Entertainment
FOX’s new series The Cool Kids follows the hijinks of four 60-somethings living it up in a retirement home. In Living Color alum David Alan Grier plays Hank on the show, but since black don’t crack, we had to look up David’s age to make sure he was actually old enough to play his character. And we were pretty shocked when we discovered this classically trained thespian is actually 62!
That’s not slowing him down one bit. “I still have a curiosity in life and I still feel like I’m a kid, but I don’t look like one,” David declared at The Cool Kids’ press panel. Of course, we needed to know more, so this determined DivaGal cornered him at the FOX All-star party inside Soho House L.A. Luckily, David was thoroughly forthcoming.
“I love life,” he shared. “I still feel like a child. I wake up and I see this beard and the bones are a little creaky, but other than that, I’m here to live every moment.”
David then hit us with this tale that blew our minds. “I have a great dog. I planted a garden of ginger and turmeric, and he ate up the whole thing. I thought it was lost,” he shared.
“But this season, it popped up again and grew. He hadn’t destroyed the whole thing, they were some left and they grew again. And I thought, “Isn’t this a miracle, the miracles we have in life. You have to keep growing and living.”
And then there was this most important lesson. “I did build a fence around the garden this time. Not taking any chances.” Lesson learned, David!
The Cool Kids premieres this September on FOX.
