The best Greek wines and vodka to try are here!
What better way to spend a summer night than sipping the best Greek wines to try in 2022 and vodka from Greece? I know, when you think of Greece, you don’t necessarily think of wines and vodka. Alternatively, you think of olives, olive oil and succulent traditional Mediterranean dishes that will prolong your life. But why not enjoy all that deliciousness with a glass of vino or a cocktail?
What Makes Greek Wine So Good?
Sosanna Katsikosta of Acheon Winery, Katerina Bosinakis of Bosinakis Winery and Theodora Rouvali of Rouvalis Winery are three, young pioneering Greek women winemakers from the Peloponnese Region. They spent an evening schooling us well on the best Greek wines to try in 2022. We joined them for dinner at Hudson West Kitchen + Craft Bar in New York City to learn more.
Basically, it’s all about the grapes and the wine-making. The Peloponnese is dominated by indigenous grape varieties. The reds, Agiorgitiko, Refosco, Mavrodaphne, and Cabernet Sauvignon are the most prevalent. The white grapes, Moschofilero, Assyrtiko, Chardonnay, Gewürztraminer and Robol, are the main grapes under the vine.
Acheon Wines is located in Aigialeia, one of the most beautiful wine regions in Greece. Their wines don’t disappoint. It was interesting to learn that climate change has actually helped reduce mudslides and enriched their harvest. Bosinakis Winery served Ieria, a delightfully dry Rose that we loved. Assyrtiko from Rouvalis Winery has lovely minerality, warm citrus and crispness that makes it perfect for the summer.
The menu for the evening was a perfect compliment. Hats off to the chef! He prepared a crab cake that was so elevated that has spoiled me for any other.
Greek Vodka? Tell me more!
Yes, Greece is producing vodkas too! Kástra Elión is a new artisan-crafted premium Greek vodka distilled from Greek olives. It’s an unexpected textured flavor will bring your favorite cocktails to life.
While most vodkas are made with just grains, Kástra Elión is distilled from the finest hand-picked olives found in the Nafpaktos region of Greece. There are pleasant earthy notes of olive and peppery undertones that will elevate your martinis and other cocktails.
Once the olives have been hand-picked, they are blended with a curated mix of grains, and mineral-rich spring water from the Crystalline Rock in Mount Taygetus, the highest peak in Southern Greece. This allows the vodka to breathe and open up complexity and aroma, which results in intoxicating taste.
Bring a little more Greece without leaving your neighborhood into your life with these best Greek wines and vodkas.
